Dylan Says: "Are You Registered to Vote?"

Actually, he doesn't say that, but his CD comes out today and the only thing wrong with pre-ordering it is that its being delivered to my house right now...but I won't get home till late so won't be able to listen to it...arrgh!

But Dylan would ask, "Have you registered?" because in most states, today is the last day. And if you don't register, you can't vote. And if you don't vote you are a big poo-poo head.

Seriously.

What the world needs is more Bob

I'm completely stoked to learn that a new Bob Dylan Bootleg CD, "Tell-Tale Signs" is coming out later this year, on October 7th.

Yes, I have already pre-ordered it.

It includes a lot of different versions of songs I already have, but also new unrecorded songs, as well.

I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Go here for a video treat of "Ring them Bells" and a USA Today feature.

You've Come a Long Way, Baby

It has just been announced today that Bob Dylan has been awarded an honorary Pulitzer prize for his "profound impact on popular music...and lyrical compositions of poetic power."

It's about time you finally got some props for your words and songs.

Way to go, Bob!

Oh, and that little play on Broadway, August: Osage County won one of them Pulitzers, too. But that's not really a surprise to anyone in the theater world.

Now I'm wishing I had seen it when we were in NYC last December.

Say What?!

I'm bummed that Cate Blanchett did not win last night for her role as Jude (aka Bob Dylan) in I'm Not There. I'm sure Tilda Swinton did a fine job, but seriously...

Otherwise, mostly not suprised by the winners, though haven't seen No Country For Old Men yet, but now want to even more.

All in all, the most endearing moment of the night was when Jon Stewart pulled out Marketa Irglova so that she could give her acceptance speech. Very classy, Jon. And she was delightful and inspiring, sharing words of hope and believing in your dreams.

And really, that's what that crazy city of Hollywood is all about.

And the second most endearing night was from Diablo Cody, writer of Juno who proclaimed, "This is for the writers!"

I'm so there!

This ain't yo mama's biopic...

I almost forgot!

Aside from eating Turkey, the other exciting thing I'll be doing this weekend is checking out the new movie based on the many lives of Bob Dylan, I'M NOT THERE, directed by Todd Haynes.

If you liked Julie Taymor's ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, then you'll probably dig this. Of course, if you're like my mom and you hate Bob Dylan's music and find his lyrics random , you may want to pass. Because the movie unravels like a great Dylan song, rich in metaphor but short on explanation. (But hey maybe you like watching a movie in confusion thinking, "wait, there's a black kid playing Dylan...?" Or "I can't tell what time period we're suppossed to be in..."

Read about it here.

Here's the trailer.
